Ian Walmsley

Principle Investigator & Provost of Imperial College London

A graduate of Imperial and the University of Rochester’s Institute of Optics, I’ve been interested in the extraordinary properties of light for more than four decades. This has motivated our group’s research across experimental quantum and ultrafast optics and optical engineering, with applications to quantum information and quantum technologies.

Specific current areas of research include: the preparation and measurement of nonclassical states in light and matter; applications to sensing and simulation; photonic quantum memories to enable scalable quantum networks.
